Prenatal Pilates Workshop with guest Dr. Ashley Jefferies

A 60-minute perinatal Pilates workshop for preconception, prenatal, and postpartum support. First we educate and build awareness, then once you understand the anatomy and what is going on, we can train and prepare you. Education is power!

Dr. Ashley Jefferies will begin our time together teaching us about the anatomy and positioning of pelvis, spine and baby, and how the Webster Technique of chiropractic care can support this process and make for smoother delivery. Annie will guide us through a foundational flow that introduces 3 of the Pilates Principles

  • The Breathing Principle - how to activate and relax transversus abdominis and pelvic floor muscles through breathing techniques and imagery. How to harness the power and focus of breath to yield different results in our body.

  • The Pelvic Principle - what are the different positions our pelvis can be in and what is your mobility and comfort like in each? This principle directly builds deep core and glute awareness to keep you easeful and aligned as you go through these big changes.

  • The Rib Cage Principle - what do our ribs tell us about our spine and shoulders and how can we increase mobility and support here?

  • Some other questions we will explore are

    • What is neutral alignment for you?

    • Can you move your arms and legs independently of the spine, pelvis and ribs? (so we aren’t floppy noodles with all that relaxin!)

    • Can we build easy mobility without overstretching and avoid being tense like statues?

    • How does all of this prepare us for preconception, pregnancy, labor, and postpartum?

    • How can Pilates and chiropractic care support each other and this entire perinatal process?

Prenatal Pilates Series

Join Annie in a 4-part Pilates for Pregnancy series. Every Thursday 4:30-5:30 pm during the month of March: March 7th, March 14th, March 21st, March 28th. There is so much information and noise out there telling us how to be “healthy” and “well,” especially during pregnancy and here at arrive we keep it simple.

This is a semi-private offering and has space for just 4 students. Exercise & breath are so important for all stages of pregnancy and studies have found The Pilates Method to provide more benefits than other forms of exercise for pregnant bodies. Some benefits Pilates includes: postural strength & pain reduction, pelvic floor awareness & endurance, safe mobility for your newly flexible body, breathing skills to prepare you for labor & connect you to your deep core and baby, and confidence & trust in your body. The Pilates Method directly prepares you for birth, drawing on similar principles that techniques like hypo-birthing does, and helps you find a calm mind and body during exercise and contractions.

This class is for you if you are currently pregnant and are seeking support and ease as you navigate this big transition. Your body is changing daily as you grow your baby. Energy is lower, caloric needs increase, cravings fluctuate, pain might creep in, fatigue is ever present, and resting heart rate increases. Your spine is physically shifting to accommodate a growing baby and it is optimal to understand these changes, stay mobile and strong. The first step is education and awareness, then once you understand the anatomy and what is going on, we train. We will prepare your shoulders and arms for holding and feeding baby, and build glute strength so you can properly support your body and posture. Other forms of exercise such as lifting, running, walking, spinning and vinyasa might not feel aligned with you right now and that’s okay! Learn the Pilates Method in 4- 1 hour semi-private sessions that are tailored specifically for pregnant bodies.
